After Six Years in Muskoka, We're Closing Our Shop — Here's How We Want to Say Goodbye

There comes a point in a woman's life when she stops dressing for everyone else. She knows what feels good, what feels like her. That belief has always been at the heart of our little shop.

Second Grade, One Desk Over

Susan and I met in second grade, one desk over, and we've been best friends ever since.

For over thirty years, we were nurses — the kind of job where you sit on the edge of someone's bed and say the true thing, kindly. You spend your whole career taking care of everyone else, and somewhere in there, you forget to ask what you need.

On our days off, we had a small, silly habit. We'd drive around and wander into little clothing shops, not really to buy anything — just to be in them. The racks, the light, the woman behind the counter who knew your name. We think now it was the same thing we loved about nursing, just gentler — someone noticing you, someone saying, this looks good on you, you look well.

The Same Word, Every Fall

Every fall, the two of us drove up to Muskoka. It became a tradition before we even called it one. Somewhere on that last stretch of road, with the lakes opening up on either side, we'd feel ourselves go quiet.

And every single year, one of us would say it out loud: someday. We never finished the sentence. We didn't have to. We both knew what we meant — someday we'd trade the night shifts for something slower, where the caring for people still happened, just without the machines and the hallway lights.

Then one day, a little shop here came up for sale. We looked at each other and said the same thing at the same time: maybe someday is now.

We called that same afternoon. That was six wonderful years ago.

What Muskoka Taught Us

We thought we were opening a shop. But you made it so much more than that.

You came in after a walk by the lake, jacket still smelling like pine. You brought your sisters, your daughters, your oldest friends up for the weekend. You tried something on "just to see" and walked out standing a little taller.

Some of you came back every season. Some of you told us you hadn't felt good in your clothes for years. Some of you stood in front of our mirror and said quietly, "I feel like myself again."

Those moments stayed with us. As nurses, we learned to notice the one who needed a little extra kindness. As shop owners, we carried that same care into every piece we chose — it turns out it was never really about the clothes. It was about the noticing.

Chosen for Real Women

We never chose a single piece for a mannequin. Not once, in six years. Every piece was chosen for real women — women with real lives, real stories, who deserve, even for a moment, to choose something just for herself.

Why We're Closing

We're sixty-six and sixty-eight now. Between the two of us, that's decades of night shifts, and six of the best years of our lives spent behind this counter. And we've decided, with full hearts, that it's time to retire.

Not because something went wrong. Because something went beautifully right, and we're old enough now to know when a story has reached its ending.

Everything must go at 75% off, because we want every last piece to find a home before we close this door for the very last time.

What the Retirement Sale Looks Like

Every piece here was chosen with the same eye, the same care, the same standard as always — pieces for the woman who wants to feel relaxed but still beautiful, comfortable and easy to live in on a cool Muskoka morning.

Especially the knits and layered pieces — we chose them because they move with you. From a walk by the lake to a lunch with an old friend to a quiet coffee looking out over the water. Because getting dressed should feel simple and lovely again.

For the Women Who've Been Here From the Beginning

You made this little shop more than a store. You made it a place. You trusted us with your time, your money, and the way you wanted to feel when you walked out.

We never took that lightly. Not once. This retirement sale is for you as much as it is for us. Six years of thank you. We mean every word.

For the Women Just Finding Us

Welcome. We're so glad you're here, even if we're meeting near the end.

Take your time. Browse slowly. Find the piece that makes you stop for a second.

Trust that instinct — we built this entire shop around exactly that moment.

One Someday. Six Years. One Beautiful Lake Town.

What started as a word we whispered to each other on a fall drive became six years of Muskoka mornings we will never forget.

Every woman deserves to feel at home in what she's wearing. That's what we built here by the lake. And we're not done until every last piece finds the woman it was meant for.
